Weekly update for Feb. 8-12
Hello, this is Allen Ellzey, Principal of Salem Middle School, with your weekly update. With the craziness of last week’s snow event and being out of school for 3 days I was not able to get my normal weekly update out on Thursday. Thus, today’s update for this week’s activities. First, a policy addition for students staying after school for various clubs or athletic events: No student is allowed to leave our campus and visit the businesses at the corner or Salem Elementary. You should remain with your club sponsor or coach or in the designated area (carpool) until picked up. The exceptions to this are for students who have parents working at Salem Elementary to be allowed to go there and for a parent note to be signed by an administrator and filed in the Student Services office for a student to be allowed to visit the businesses on the corner. We are concerned about student safety when students leave and walk to up there unsupervised. Our Book Fair kicked off today and runs all week with a special evening event this Thursday, Feb 11 from 5-8 featuring live entertainment and refreshments. Thanks to the PTA for their wonderful support for this fun event!! Our basketball teams end their regular seasons today at West Cary and then each host “play off games” later this week, the ladies on Wednesday( 2/10) at 4:00 and the guys on Thursday(2/11) at 4:00. The boys team is shooting for a perfect season with a win today and one on Thursday!! All students get in free by wearing their Salem Spiritwear to the games. Congratulations to both teams on their seasons. Friday, Feb 12 th is our Valentines Dance from 7-9 sponsored by the Athletic Dept. Remember to fill out the permission form and for pick up after the Dance remember that 6 th graders are picked up in the Bus loop and 7 th and 8 th graders in the car loop. Remember to exit thru the gate near Salem Elem from our car loop. It should be an exciting evening !! Wednesday Feb 10 th is a Track Day for Track 2 and Track 3 returns on Thursday. We hope Track 2 students have a wonderful track out! Finallly Ms Margaret Feldman, Salem’s Teacher of the Year, will be honored this Friday Feb 12 at a luncheon sponsored by the Apex Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations again to Ms Feldman, 8 th grade Track 3 Language Arts teacher. Thanks for your attention and continued support of Salem Middle!
"Escape into Reading" with the Scholastic Book Fair in February Thank to the PTA, we are excited to announce the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair during Feb 8-16, during the school day from 7am - 2:45 pm and on Thursday, Feb 11 from 5-8 pm. Students will have access to the Fair via their LA or SS teachers, before school, during lunch or at the evening event. Our evening event will feature live entertainment and refreshments. Flyers highlighting great new titles will soon be available to students. Thank you for your support of the Book Fair and thanks also to all the wonderful parent volunteers who make the Fair possible! All proceeds go toward new books for our students.
