Salem Middle School supports SECU's "Support the Troops" Campaign
Sept. 17, 2013 Salem Middle School will kick off our support of SECU's "Support the Troops" campaign for 2013. It will last through October 31, 2013. This campaign benefits North Carolina's military personnel deployed throughout the world.
SECU collects the "wish list" items from Salem Middle School and provides "gifts from home" during the Holidays.
SECU invites students to write letters to the troops to accompany the gift boxes that they'll pack and ship. The student letters will let the military personnel know that we're thinking about them over the Holidays and that we thank them for their service.
We'll have blue FBLA boxes located at each Team Pod area as well as red collection boxes at the Front Office door and in front of Nancy Icardi's Art Room.
We gave 1,213 items last year, so we've set our goal this year at 1,225. We'll keep team competition info. updated on our Military Bulletin Board outside the cafeteria.
Click here for the flyer giving the "wish list" items. Categories include food items, toiletries, medicine/first aid, clothing, and entertainment/miscellaneous. Please note that all items must be new (no used items). Items must be able to fit in a 10" x 10" x 5" box. Travel sized items are best. No pressurized (aerosol) can or glass containers, please. No food items that can melt. No hotel samples of toiletries, please. Individualized packages (rather than multi-packs) preferred.

The Salem Ambassadors is a service oriented organization consisting of 7th and 8th grade young men who were selected after going through an extensive admissions process in the 6th grade. The Ambassadors are responsible for assisting the Salem community whenever needed; this may be in the form of greeting families at after school functions or becoming a mentor to elementary school students. They also plan events such as Salem’s Fright Night and The Salem Showdown Talent Show. One weekend per month is also dedicated to volunteering at local organizations - such as Miracle League Baseball or The Ronald McDonald House. Finally, members go on college tours to understand the importance of a higher education.
